The smoke is beginning to clear following last week’s shooting at Irving Plaza in New York City, and while some things are still uncertain, Troy Ave will begin this week in a most unfavorable position. Not only was he seen, clear as day, firing his gun into the venue on surveillance footage, but the Brooklyn rapper was injured during Wednesday night’s events, and he recently left the hospital in a wheelchair and in handcuffs. He’s been charged with attempted murder, in addition to reckless endangerment and another charge relating to his weapon possession.

While some members of the Hip Hop community, namely Slim Thug, have expressed their distaste for Troy Ave’s actions, Meek Mill has decided throw support behind Troy, suggesting that the press is doing its best to “gas” the Hip Hop community into shaming one of its own. Of course, we know Meek has had his share of legal troubles in recent years. He served two separate jail sentences, and is currently in the final days of a 3-month house arrest bid that has stagnated the release of his highly-anticipated mixtape, Dreamchasers 4.

Meek went on to suggest that had Troy Ave been a cop in fear of his life, the police force would stand behind him “100%.” As more and more details about the circumstances that surrounded Wednesday’s incident leak out, we’ll know better what happened, and be able to make fair assessments about the actions of all involved. For now, let’s continue to pray for the family of Ronald McPhatter, who lost his life during the shooting.
