Ariana Grande dropped a whole new album and couldn’t dethrone Drake.
That’s how the month of May has been going for Mr. Aubrey Graham.
For the fourth consecutive week, Drake tops the Billboard 200 with his fourth studio album, Views, which he released on April 29. Outside of the Toronto rapper’s first U.S. #1 single, Views has spawned, of course, about 19 other crowd favorites that have dominated the airwaves and social media channels for several weeks. He delivered another hilarious performance on Saturday Night Live, and Ellen scared the sh*t out of him with a prankster wearing one of Drake’s “Hotline Bling” outfits. Despite what the latter sounds like, it’s all been fantastic for the OVO head honcho.
Ariana Grande has also had a good few weeks, especially with her “Dangerous Woman” single cracking the Billboard Hot 100’s top 10 with a #8 placement, and the success of a few of the other songs she released. She unfortunately narrowly missed out on the third consecutive #1 album of her career as she finishes as the runner-up to Views. Dangerous Woman moved 175,000 equivalent album units to debut at #2, about 14,000 units behind Views’ total of 189,000.
Beyonce held steady in the top 5, finishing at #4, just one spot in front of Rihanna, who rounds out the top 5 with ANTI. Beyonce’s album, Lemonade, moved about 100,000 units while ANTI, which is still in the top 5 after a late January release, recorded roughly 47,000 units this last week.
As far as the singles go, Drizzy’s “One Dance” is of course back in the #1 slot, and the rest of the top 5 looks pretty familiar. Desiigner’s “Panda,” JT’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” Fifth Harmony’s “Work From Home” and “Don’t Let Me Down” by the Chainsmokers.
