Joey Bada$$ was expected to play a show at Irving Plaza tomorrow night, and it has been cancelled by the NYPD according to a tweet sent out from Joey’s Twitter account.

Today is a week to the day since multiple gunmen–one of them was Troy Ave–opened fire during a T.I. show at Irving Plaza, resulting in the death of Ave’s bodyguard, 33-year-old Ronald McPhatter. The day after the shooting, NYPD Commissioner Bill Bratton referred to rappers as “basically thugs,” and several artists, from Slim Thug to Meek Mill, have expressed their opinion about the situation, either denouncing the actions of all involved or throwing support to Troy Ave.

Ironically, Troy Ave and Joey Bada$$ were embroiled in a short-lived beef earlier this year, during which Ave dissed Joey’s fallen comrade Capital STEEZ, and Joey responded with a radio freestyle. Vince Staples has a show at Irving Plaza on Saturday night, let’s see if that’s allowed to go on as planned.
