The Philadelphia 76ers currently have the #1 pick in this month’s NBA Draft, and the majority of the basketball world is expecting Philly to go one of two ways. Either they buy into the fact that Ben Simmons is in fact the once-in-a-generation player he’s being made out to be, or they go with who some think is the surer bet, the scoring machine from Duke, Brandon Ingram.
Either way, Philly’s going to pick up one of the best offensive pro prospects in recent years, but before that happens, it looks like they’re trying to ensure that they have a proven point guard to help guide them. According to Yahoo! Sports, the Sixers are currently discussing a deal that would deal Nerlens Noel to the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for Jeff Teague.
Both players will be free agents in 2017, but both can impact their teams’ immediate outlook. Considering the stellar rookie year Jahlil Okafor just had, and their #1 pick, the Sixers could take a large step back towards the playoffs next season, especially if Teague is added to the mix. On Atlanta’s part, a frontcourt trio of Noel, All-Star center Al Horford and Paul Millsap, would certainly stand tall as one of the best of its kind in the league.
There’s currently no timetable for getting the deal done, but stay tuned for updates.
