Though there were rumors that he had plans to hang it up, Marshawn Lynch shocked the sports world when he tweeted a picture of his cleats hanging from a high street cable back in February of this year. Was this the All-Pro running back’s way of saying he’s retiring? Surely, not when he’s still one of the best backs in the league, and not when his Seahawks are built to be contenders for years to come, right?

Wrong. Lynch, despite the positive outlook of both his career and his team, was done with football. His cousin, relatively famous rapper Mistah F.A.B., has not been mum on the fact that Lynch is really finished with football, yet there’s a growing feeling that this could all be postulation for a bigger and better deal in Seattle, or a ploy to make a move to his hometown Oakland Raiders.

So, it was fitting that Lynch, in a rare interview with 60 Minutes Sports, left nothing to be desired regarding an announcement of the next step in his career. Despite saying several times during the interview that he’s done playing football, Lynch’s agent, Doug Hendrickson, said he’s adopted the “never say never” philosophy with Lynch, leading the interviewer to press Lynch one final time.

Lynch leaned in, looked directly in his eyes, and said: “I’m done.”

You’d have to be a little thick-skulled to ask him if he’s returning next season after that.
