Though his 8th studio album wasn’t released at the end of 2014 like many had hoped, Usher has continued to release music and perform. Some of his loose singles, like “Good Kisser,” “She Wanna Give It To You” and “Chains” have picked up some serious traction, and despite his four-year absence from the shelves, Usher is primed to make a serious comeback with this new LP.
Today, Ush is continuing his journey with a new single, “No Limit” featuring Young Thug, that deftly flips artist names and songs from Master P’s No Limit heyday. Usher sings “I give you that Ghetto D, No Limit” and warns that he’ll make his lady friend “say uhh!,” which is of course a reference to Master P‘s 1997 classic “Make ‘Em Say Uhh!” You can listen to the track on TIDAL here.
Whatever qualms listeners might have about Young Thug being the song’s guest feature are quickly eased. Usher himself uses a rapid flow over the methodic instrumental, and Thug’s high-pitched, staccato vocals fit in seamlessly. Usher is no stranger to using street rappers on his singles either. He featured a screaming Plies on “Daddy’s Home” and everyone remembers his Just Blaze-produced “Throwback,” which came with an iconic verse from Jadakiss.
“No Limit” won’t be the only work we get from Usher this week, either. He’ll be releasing another single, “Crash,” which will be available at all retailers at midnight tonight.
