Jim Jones was a recent guest on the Rap Radar podcast, and as expected, he expounded on rumors that he’s been having serious issues with Cam’ron, Dame Dash, Max B and more. Of Dame, Jim was succinct in his disdain–“F*ck Dame”–but when it came to Max, to whom Jim has been linked since the early 2000’s, the Harlem rapper explained that there isn’t much of a relationship, but Max B’s potential was sky high in his heyday.
Jones says that in the current day, with guys like Drake and Wiz Khalifa–who he name-drop specifically–using melodic deliveries and raps, there’s obvious evidence of Max’s influence. He even goes on to say that Max, who is currently serving a lengthy prison sentence, could have been as big as Drake if he didn’t get caught up in the illegal activities that landed him behind bars.
It’s worth noting that at least one of the people Jones name-dropped, Wiz, likely feels the same way. When Kanye West changed his album title for the second time, from SWISH to WAVES this January, Wiz Khalifa was infamously miffed by the announcement. Khalifa felt the proper homage wasn’t being paid to Max B, which led to a brief but headline-making war of words between Wiz and Kanye on Twitter.
In recent months, Drake has also paid homage to Max B. The Saturday after Wiz and Kanye’s riff, Drake opened his OVO Sound Radio set on Beats1 with Max B’s “I’m So High.”
