Following a Game 4 incident during which Draymond Green and LeBron James became entangled in a contentious situation after James stepped over Green during a play, Draymond has been suspended for Game 5 of the NBA Finals, which is tomorrow night. Here’s the official statement.

Green’s actions in Game 4 looked at in a vacuum might not seem suspension-worthy, but throughout these NBA Playoffs, especially during the Warriors Western Conference Finals match-up with the Oklahoma City Thunder, Green has come under immense scrutiny. He kicked Thunder center Steven Adams in the groin twice–the latter incident was so bad Adams considered wearing a cup for the following game–and sports writers and content curators from around the country have cited separate incidents in which Green has used excessive flailing or force to either try to convince a referee that a foul was being committed against him, or to agitate an opposing player.
The incident in question involved a play in which LeBron James tried to crash through a screen Green was setting for Stephen Curry. (Anyone with two eyes and a TV set knows how damaging it can be if Steph Curry and Draymond Green are allowed to get the screen-and-pop rhythm going.) Bodies collided, Green ended up on the ground, and when LeBron stepped over him, tempers and limbs flared, and a brief, minor altercation ensued.
James later alleged that Green called him something that didn’t sit well with him as a family man, and the LeBron whisperer, ESPN’s Brian Windhorst, reportedly revealed that Green called LeBron a “b*tch.”
Well, James gets the last laugh, at least for now. He’ll have an uphill battle trying to send the series back to Cleveland for a Game 6 when the Cavs take on Golden State tomorrow night in Oakland.
