Beginning July 1, things are going to get pretty crazy in the NBA. Barring a miraculous comeback by the Cavs, the Warriors will have won their second consecutive NBA title, Draymond Green’s suspension will be little more than an afterthought, and we’ll know where collegiate stars like Ben Simmons, Buddy Hield, Brandon Ingram and more will be spending the next few years of their life. All of that takes place at the end of June. The Kevin Durant Sweepstakes, however, kick off on July 1.

The unrestricted free agent will, for the first time in his career, be free to sign with whichever team can afford him. Rumors have him seriously considering the Boston Celtics, the Washington Wizards, the San Antonio Spurs and–yes, really–the Golden State Warriors. However, there’s something to be said about the option to stay home in Oklahoma City and make another run at the Finals with the Thunder. It’s the only team he’s ever played on, and he forms, arguably, the most intimidating 1-2 punch in the league with Russell Westbrook.

However, the city of Oklahoma City isn’t sure that will be enough for KD, and they’ve decided to add a little incentive. The governor of Oklahoma, Mary Fallin, has offered KD a cabinet position should he re-sign with the Thunder.

Oklahoma loves Kevin Durant, and Kevin Durant loves Oklahoma. If he’ll stay, I’ll make him a Cabinet person for health and fitness on my Cabinet.

Considering how important it is to begin planting the seeds for a life after basketball early, Durant might want to seriously consider this.
