For many years, Jesse Williams has been one of the most prominent faces of Shonda Rhimes‘ wildly successful ABC hospital drama, Grey’s Anatomy. In recent months however, he’s been a lot more than that, and he’ll get recognized for it at this weekend’s BET Awards in Los Angeles.
Williams, 34, has become one of the most salient Black voices in Hollywood over the last few years, and immersed himself into the #BlackLivesMatter movement, both in the streets and on social media. Earlier this year, he produced Stay Woke, a BET documentary on the #BLM movement, and has continued to will collaborators and fans alike to get active and engaged in supporting progressive social issues, especially those that affect the Black community.
On Sunday, we’ll also see the late legend Prince be honored with a tribute performed by D’Angelo and Janelle Monae, among others. The BET Awards airs on BET on January 26 at 8 p.m. ET.
