Lil Wayne and Birdman’s differences date back to the latter half of 2014, during which Weezy took to Twitter to reveal that money disputes with Birdman and Cash Money Records was contributing to the delay of his Tha Carter V album, which has still not been released.
Since then, there have been interview shots thrown back and forth, lawsuits exchanged, and hints dropped from Wayne’s Cash Money peers about similar issues, but it all appeared to subside during 2016 New Year’s celebrations, when Wayne, Baby, Drake and other Cash Money affiliates posed for a photograph. (Together.) However, the rest of 2016 hasn’t been as peaceful. Lil Wayne has not rescinded his lawsuit against Birdman, but the latter has maintained that his prized empire won’t be broken up.
That sentiment hasn’t stopped Wayne from screaming “F*ck Cash Money” publicly, most recently at a performance in Denver. To make matters more awkward, Birdman appeared on ESPN’s hilarious talk show Highly Questionable today with Bomani Jones and Dan and Papi LeBatard, boasted about literally sleeping on $1 million every night–tucked under a Versace bed spread–and touched lightly on his relationship with Lil Wayne.
Wayne, who either caught the recap posted to HQ’s Twitter account or was tuned in live–Weezy is an avid ESPN fan–quickly tweeted his reaction, and in classic rapper fashion, delivered quite the play on words.
