In February of 2015, Kanye West debuted his first fashion and footwear line with Adidas, Yeezy Season and the Yeezy Boost 750, the first of many collaborations with Adidas, whom he bolted for from Nike after his relationship with Nike CEO Mark Parker dissolved. Since then, ‘Ye has carved out a significant lane for himself in the fashion world, ultimately debuting the third edition of his Yeezy Season line–along with his latest album, The Life of Pablo–at Madison Square Garden.
The success the last year has brought both the YEEZY and Adidas brands makes today’s announcement wholly unsurprising. Kanye West has entered a long-term partnership with the Adidas brand that will expand his role as a creator and curator, and remove certain limitations on the factions of Adidas apparel, clothing and footwear ‘Ye will be contributing creative direction to.
In addition, Kanye will be granted his own YEEZY retail stores, which will likely greatly change how his new releases are delivered to the public. YEEZY will also be awarded its own design team, and Kanye will be involved in Adidas performance design, which is uncharted apparel territory for the 38-year-old entertainer.
Adidas CMO Eric Liedtke had this to say about the new Yeezy developments:
With adidas + KANYE WEST we are exploring new territories by opening up the sports world to Kanye’s creativity. This is what adidas has always been about, empowering creators to create the new.
