Drake‘s Caribbean phase continues to be contagious, leading many artists to drop dancehall-infused tracks and remixes this year. “One Dance” and “Controlla” were two of the most popular tracks of 2016 and it certainly looks like Mr. Graham isn’t done with the wave just yet.
Yesterday [Thursday, June 30] Drake announced a brand new date for the seventh annual OVO Fest, which will be headlined by legendary Trinidadian soca singer Machel Montano and Grammy award-winning Jamaican reggae dancehall recording artist, Beenie Man who’s also referred to as the “King of Dancehall” (Beenie’s “Tear Off Mi Garment” was sampled on “Controlla”).
Drake’s own name doesn’t seem to be on the event poster but knowing the 6 God he might just decide to make an appearance (and spin a DJ set) with some of his famous friends to turn the event into a yard jam. Even though he will be in the midst of his Summer Sixteen tour alongside Future, Roy Woods and DVSN, OVO Fest will be taking place around his Toronto tour dates.
According to the poster, the festivities will be taking place on July 30 at TD Echo Beach in Toronto and tickets are available now via TicketMaster.
