This week, Variety revealed that comedian Kevin Hart will be recruiting talent for his new video-on-demand channel, Laugh Out Loud. Hart is headed to Montreal, Canada to connect with emerging talent at the Just For Laughs Festival.
A select group of creators will be able to pitch their best short-form comedy ideas to Hart directly. If he likes what he sees, he will give the entrant a slot in Laugh Out Loud’s VOD lineup. The event will take place on Thursday, July 28, at the Hyatt Regency Montreal hotel.
“We’re looking for pitches, and if Kevin likes it we’ll make deals on the spot,” said Jeff Clanagan, president of CodeBlack Films and Hart’s business partner.
Just For Laughs staff will prescreen pitches and then select a shortlist of up to 10 finalists to present their ideas. To be considered, comedians, writers, producers and creators must submit a one-page outline to industry@hahaha.com by July 13.
The Just For Laughs Festival will run from July 13 to Aug. 1, 2016. Kevin’s comedy Central Intelligence is now playing and his new animated film The Secret Life of Pets hits theaters on July 8.
