Today was Kevin Durant day, and the former MVP delivered the shock wave some expected would come when he announced his departure from Oklahoma City for Golden State at around noon E.T.
However, KD wasn’t the only big fish left on the market this week. Pau Gasol, a two-time NBA Champion and still one of the best centers in the league, had yet to decide if he would be returning to Chicago or bolting for elsewhere, and that decision has come down as well.
Gasol, according to the Chicago Tribune, has signed a 2-year deal to join the San Antonio Spurs, where he’ll team up with LaMarcus Aldridge to form arguably the most daunting power forward-center combo in the league. Tripled with starting small forward Kawhi Leonard, the Spurs, with the addition of Gasol, may have the best 3-4-5 trio as well.
Gasol’s deal is reportedly worth $30 million over the 2 years, and it pairs him with Gregg Popovich, whom Gasol has publicly thrown support to in recent years.
