ScHoolboy Q‘s Blank Face LP album will be out in less than 2 days, so needless to say, everyone is talking about TDE’s resident Hoover Crip. He sat down with Hot 97’s Ebro in the Morning crew to discuss a myriad of things, including the trolling he did with his “blank face” Michael Jordan and Donald Trump album covers, to not being able to truly read until he was about 9 years old. Q also talked about weaning himself off lean–he hasn’t regularly consumed it since 2012–and much more.
One of the topics touched on was Kanye West and his hilarious verse on Q’s most recent single, “THat Part,” which dropped in May. Q and Kanye have since released a music video for the song, and it’s currently steadily rising on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, but prior to all that, Q was convinced Kanye tried to “serve” him when he first heard Yeezy’s verse on the song.
For those of you that haven’t heard “THat Part” yet, Kanye opens his verse with this really eloquent bar, a true testament to his rhyming skills.
Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay, OKAY!
The hilarious part about Q’s story, which he begins just after the 10:30 mark of the interview above, is that he was so reluctant to ask Kanye for a verse, he solicited the help of TDE CEO Anthony Tiffith, who shares a neighborhood with the Wests. It wasn’t before long that Kanye had added a verse to the song, but when Q first decided to listen to it, he was sure Kanye was trolling him thanks to that confusing intro line.
We now know, however, that ‘Ye would go on to drop some memorable lines throughout his verse, including comparing Kim Kardashian to O.J. Simpson, and painting a picture of paparazzi doing back-flips when he walks out of department stores. In addition, Q points out that Kanye’s “okay” rant is the craziest moment of “THat Part” live performances.
Go figure.
