The ESPYs aired on ESPN last night, celebrating the very best performances and figures in sports and sports culture, and while there were many moments worthy of replay and reflection, there was arguably no singular moment more emotional and captivating than Joe Biden bestowing the Jimmy V Perseverance Award on Craig Sager, the legendary sports broadcaster and reporter currently engrossed in a battle with leukemia that has significantly shortened his life expectancy.
After Sager thanked Biden, who turned down the opportunity to run for President this year to dedicate his life to finding the cure for cancer, he launched into a touching acceptance speech, reminding everyone that his “perception of time” changed after he’d been diagnosed with leukemia, and that his daily focus is to continue to be in awe of life, sports, and the amazing feats being accomplished around him, both on the job and in his family.
Time is something that cannot be blocked. It cannot be wagered with God, and it is not in endless supply. Time is simply how you live your life.
Watch his truly inspiring speech above.
