Yesterday, the internet was abuzz with rumors that the Celtics might be making a deal to bring Russell Westbrook to Boston—and that Paul Pierce might be involved—and today they have yet another exciting rumor to geek over.

It’s long been thought that the Los Angeles Clippers are ready to part ways with star forward Blake Griffin, whom they drafted with the #1 pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. Griffin evolved into an MVP-caliber player, and has been named to five All-Star teams, four All-NBA teams, and won Rookie of the Year in his first season. However, last season, the Clippers enjoyed their best stretch of the regular season with Griffin sideline due to injury, and some off-court issues complicated his relationship with the team and the front office. Around this year’s trading deadline, rumors of a potential trade to the Nuggets began to swirl, but the former Oklahoma Sooner ultimately stayed put. However, with his contract expiring next summer, Griffin has been discussed ad nauseum in potential trade deals, the most recent one involving the Boston Celtics.

According to Sporting News reporter Sean Deveney, ‘several sources’ have revealed to him that Boston might be looking to make a deal for Blake Griffin. More specifically, according to his tweet, the Celts “will make major deal soon.”

If you remember, before the season was over, the Celtics reportedly made a major push for Carmelo Anthony but Melo was unwilling to waive his no-trade clause. In addition, the Celtics made a very public push for Kevin Durant and were rumored to be involved in discussions for Dwight Howard, but none of those deals panned out. If all of that craziness says anything, it says Boston believes they can win now, and they’re pinning their ears back, and going for the players that they think can help them achieve that.
