The 2016 Emmy nominations have been announced, and there are some obvious picks, some surprises, but an overall fascinating bunch of actors, actresses and TV shows that have been revealed as the best of the best of the small screen.

Viola Davis, Robin Wright and Taraji P. Henson are two of the six actresses nominated for the Emmy for Lead actress in a drama, and some pretty big names headline the Lead actor in a drama category as well. Bloodline’s Kyle Chandler—you know him from Friday Night Lights, if nothing else—Bob Odenkirk for Better Call Saul, and the only fictional POTUS to get a co-sign from the actual POTUS, House of Cards’ Frank Underwood, born Kevin Spacey, help make that category rather robust.

The insanely popular The People v. O.J. Simpson show has spawned a couple nominations. Of course, the show’s O.J. Simpson, Cuba Gooding Jr., continues to have one of the best years of his career, and he’s joined by Courtney B. Vance in the Lead actor in a limited series category. Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross predictably snagged nominations for black-ish, as did black-ish the show, for Comedy series.

In addition, several big-name fan and social media favorites have a chance at Emmy glory this season, including Game of Thrones (Drama series), Homeland (Drama series), Netflix’s Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Comedy series) and Modern Family (Comedy series).
