To his credit, his parents were present.

After unceremoniously exiting last year’s NBA Finals in Game 1 with a terrible leg injury, Kyrie Irving returned this year healthy on the NBA’s biggest stage, looking to help his team gain revenge against the Warriors who beat them to win the championship in 2015. As we now know, Irving did just that, including the go-ahead shot in the final seconds of Game 7 to give the Cavs the first championship in franchise history.

According to ThePostGame, outside of physically celebrating with his father and sister, the first person Irving contacted was Kobe Bryant in the locker room, via Facetime. Irving explained that he and the Mamba kept lines of communication open during the season and the playoffs, and that he has a newfound respect for the recently-retired basketball legend, who has five championships compared to Irving’s one.

I had been speaking to him throughout the entire playoffs and during the season. During the Finals, we didn’t really talk as much, because for me, I wanted to experience it full on, and if I needed his help, I would reach out to him. He would send me some texts here and there, but mainly he kind of let me be, and let me grow into my own space.
