French Montana‘s long-awaited sophomore album, MC4–an expansion of his popular Mac & Cheese mixtape series, the last of which was released in 2013–will arrive on August 19, and he’s been teasing the project for most of the summer, thanks to the star-studded “Figure It Out” with Kanye West and Nas, and the sinister “Lockjaw” featuring Kodak Black.
Last night, French delivered a fresh new single–both “Figure It Out” and “Lockjaw” were featured on a previously-released mixtape, Wave Gods–featuring Drake, “No Shopping,” which the two have been teasing on social media for the better part of the last month. The song, produced by Murda Beatz and Noah “40” Shebib, was widely believed to be the record on which Drake would be shooting back at Joe Budden after Vine snippets of the beginning of Drake’s verse–“Pump, pump pump it up”–leaked to the internet. If you remember, shortly after Drake’s fourth studio album, Views, was released in April, Budden went on a rant on his podcast explaining that he was disappointed in Drake, and that Views was somewhat of a middling album.
“No Shopping” will also be treated to a music video, which French and Drake shot in the Dominican Republic. While we wait for that, listen to the new summer banger below.
