A 29 year old fan of the Chicago Open Air Music Fest died after falling two stories from the mezzanine to his death during the festival’s opening ceremonies Friday, July 15.

Robert Smucz of the North Side in Chicago was pronounced dead at the Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office. City spokesman Ray Hanania said Smucz fell over a railing of the mezzanine level of the stadium, which was two stories high, to the pavement below. The death stemmed from multiple injuries as a result of the fall.

The fall happened at just after 10PM, which would place it between the sets of Chevelle and headliner Rammstein on the Friday night bill.
