The casual film fan and movie buff is still celebrating Leonardo DiCaprio winning his first-ever Academy Award this year thanks to his eye-popping role in The Revenant, but Hollywood waits for no one. In fact, for the first time since 2013, the Golden Globe awards will be hosted by someone other than Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
Jimmy Fallon is taking the reins.
Ceremony producers turned to the edgy Ricky Gervais in 2010 to take over the hosting duties, and he nailed that role, almost turning the Oscars tune-up into his own personal stand-up feature, with special guests like George Clooney and Lupita Nyong’o. Fey and Poehler brought their abstract silliness to their tenure, and now Fallon will get a shot to infuse the role with his measured comic persona, one that may or may not sit with Globes fans, who are used to seeing hosts that will shoot from the hip every once in a while. Fallon, a sure-shot late night host, might not find that to be his strength.
However, as Collider points out, the open-bar nature of the Globes might actually bring out the crazy in Fallon. For years, rumors have circulated that Fallon was a bit of a heavy drinker, and the right booze combo could gift us with Drunk Fallon, host of the Golden Globes.
That’ll be fun.
