This week, Variety revealed that Maya Rudolph will star in New Line’s college comedy Life of the Party. She will play the neurotic best friend of Melissa McCarthy’s character. The film will be directed by McCarthy’s husband actor/director Ben Falcone. Ben and Melissa previously worked together on 2014 comedy Tammy and The Boss, which came out this year. Filming is set to begin this month in Atlanta.
McCarthy and Falcone wrote the script and are producing through their On the Way production company. Chris Henchy, who is probably best known for Mark Wahlberg flick Daddy’s Home, is also producing. The film is inspired by Rodney Dangerfield’s Back to School.
Rudolph and McCarthy were hilarious in 2011’s Bridesmaids. Life Of The Party is bound to be a crowd pleaser. Rudolph starred on SNL for seven years and she recently wrapped the first season of her own NBC variety show Maya & Marty. The film hits theaters on May 11, 2018.
