The MLB 3,000 hit club officially has its 30th member: Ichiro Suzuki.

Ichiro, who has been one of the best–at times, the best–hitters in Major League Baseball since he came into the league at age 27, recorded his 3,000th hit last night with a triple against Rockies reliever Chris Rusin in the Marlins victory over Colorado last night. Ichiro hit a towering fly ball that ricocheted off the right field wall to achieve the rare milestone, tying Roberto Clemente for 29th on the all-time hits list.

Though Ichiro has become a fan-favorite Miami Marlin during the twilight of his career, he spent his prime years re-defining what it meant to be a hitter as a member of the Seattle Mariners. In Seattle, Ichiro set several Major League records, including 10 consecutive 200-hit seasons and the single-season record for hits: 262. He also won both Rookie of the Year and AL MVP in his first season in the Majors and won the AL batting crown twice.

Suzuki, a sure-fire Hall of Famer, is easily one of the best players of his generation.
