Paul George is playing with Team USA this summer, a proud moment for the All-Star Pacers forward after he suffered one of the most gruesome basketball injuries ever playing with the team in the summer of 2014, cancelling his following NBA season. Thankfully, his health streak has continued well into this summer’s Olympic activities, but China guard Zhao Jiwei tried his best to change that.
Team USA has beat up on just about every one of its opponents, and China was no different. The U.S. faced off against China during one of its first Rio match-ups, and ran away with the game, nearly doubling up in a final score of 119-62. So, there weren’t too many highlights for China, but this one was certainly worth running back. Paul George was playing tight defense on Jiwei, a guard with nifty handles, and George began tracking him upcourt before he got hit with a vicious step-back dribble. The move sent George staggering back, then ultimately put him square on his buttocks, much to the crowd’s amusement.
George, generally doesn’t shy away from admitting when an opponent’s gotten the best of him, was adamant after the game that he didn’t get crossed. His shoes just had too much grip.
