Jhene Aiko has been teasing a new project for months now, and to whet her fans appetites even more, she’s come through with a new song to start the week titled “New Balance.” The track, which appears to be analagous to the drama surrounding the West Coast singer at the moment, alludes to a controversial romance that appears to be a response to the rumors about her and Big Sean.
Earlier this year, in April, Aiko and Sean teamed up for a romantic and sensual joint LP, Twenty88, right around the time she was married to producer and longtime Kid Cudi collaborator, Dot Da Genius. As the Twenty88 hype built–as did the amount of suggestive pictures Aiko and Sean took together–fans and critics took to social media to speak of the love triangle that appeared to be brewing. Over the weekend, Aiko and Genius announced that they’d filed for divorce, and over the last few days, Aiko can be seen wearing multiple shirts bearing Big Sean’s face on her Instagram.
What does it all mean? It would be irresponsible to draw conclusions based solely on the aforementioned circumstances, so here’s Aiko acknowledging a fan who alleged that “New Balance” is a “beautiful love song” for Sean.
