New Orleans Big Bounce legend Big Freedia just got the best news ever.
On Thursday afternoon, the Louisiana queen narrowly escaped prison time on charges of theft of federal housing-assistance funds. But Freedia didn’t get off completely. She was sentenced to three years of probation and a $35,000 fine by U.S. District Judge Lance Africk.
Attorney Vinny Mosca noted that the performer has already made restitution of more than $34,000 and has taken steps to be a better role model, including working with Habitat for Humanity.
Freedia was originally facing 10 years in prison after being charged back in March for omitting her new celebrity-level income and fraudulently still collecting housing voucher assistance to pay her rent.
