Many stars (athletes especially) have spoken out about their feelings regarding Colin Kaepernick‘s protest against the National Anthem.
Well, golden boy Steph Curry is one of the celebs who actually supports Kaepernick’s decision to kneel down during the song. The Golden State Warriors star, who’s been lying low since losing this year’s NBA Championship, expressed his respect for Kap’s stance.
In a recent interview with Sara Eisen of CNBC, Curry stated, “I love that there’s freedom of speech and he can stand up for what he believes in. There’s going to be people that disagree with him and there’s going to be people that agree with him, which is what I think our country stands for, which hopefully will drive the conversation to bettering the equal rights and treatment of African Americans and people of color.”
He continued, “So I applaud him for taking a stand and hopefully the conversation is about what his message was and not, is he going to stand or is he going to sit for the national anthem? The conversation is started and should continue.”
Curry’s support of the San Francisco 49ers quarterback comes just after Cam Newton and Shaquille O’Neal denounced his approach and intention. Despite the controversy, Colin Kaepernick’s jersey sales have skyrocketed, becoming the top-selling jersey in the NFL.
