Warning: whether you’re an avid marijuana smoker, partake socially or not at all, this is still going to blow you away. While you may not be familiar with his work, yet, Pittsburgh native Cliff Maynard is a unique artist in his own right. He’s a Picasso of sorts to an art form he discovered all on his own. Known as Roach Paper Art, the 42-year-old visionary uses the burnt roach papers from the butts of marijuana joints to piece together portraits of known figures. His incredible designs include portraits of Bob Marley, Snoop Dogg, and Jesus Christ. As to how he conceived such an idea, Maynard says that while studying mosaics in school he made a connection between the tiles and roach papers. But what he doesn’t say is how he collects the leftover goods. He doesn’t have to. It’s a known fact that every artist has their own source of inspiration and the muse here can clearly be seen, literally. One person who can appreciate this artistic approach is country music singer-songwriter and renowned pot smoker Willie Nelson. He is the creation of Maynard’s latest inspired piece.
