Diane McIver must’ve thought she was a safe passengers in the front seat of her bet friend’s car as they drove through Atlanta, on September 25. The source of this assumed comfort would be McIver’s husband, Claud “Tex” McIver who was seated directly behind her in the back seat with a .38 revolver in his lap. Why did he bring the hammer? According to CBS News, family friend and spokesman Bill Crane told police “the couple retrieved their gun from the center console because they feared a carjacking amid recent Black Lives Matter protests.” Yeah, even though BLM protests are largely peaceful, ol’ Tex needed the strap. Nevertheless, tragedy struck as they rolled through Piedmont Park. The car hit a bump and Tex’s gun discharged, striking his marketing executive wife. Diane McIver, 63, died during surgery at Emory hospital.
However, police are skeptical of the story that Crane told them. CBS News reports:
Atlanta Police, however, told the paper the shooting “more complicated” than Crane’s account, but they wouldn’t elaborate. The case is being investigated as a homicide, but no charges have been filed.
Atlanta Police Sgt. Warren Pickard told the paper Crane “wasn’t in the car, so he is not a witness to what happened. We are going to wait and see what all the witnesses have to say.”
Diane McIver was president of ATL-based marketing firm Corey Airport Services, with where she’s worked for the past 43 years. Her husband is very sloppy. SMH.
