Top Dawg Entertainment’s second to bat ScHoolboy Q (or Groovy Q as he now likes to be called) is in full press mode as Feb. 25 draws closely and the world gets a chance to hear “Oxymoron” his highly anticipated debut album. He’s teased fans with his Kendrick Lamar assisted single “Collard Greens” along with newest hit “Man of The Year”
Q stopped by the GIANTLife offices to chop it up real quick about some of the big lessons he’s learned frontin, and of course “Oxymoron.” Groovy Q is a man of very few words, yet he knows how to get straight to the point.
ScHoolboy Q, boys and girls.
What did you do with your first big check?
I bought a whole lot of weed. That’s it.
What’s the best piece of advice anyone in the industry has given you?
The best I received was to keep the passion and not to get caught up in the money, but to always keep the passion.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned by being behind the scenes in the industry?
Don’t front like I’m something that I’m not. I don’t do that. I’m not into the jewelry and all that sh*t. Just because n****s wear it and I can afford it don’t mean I’m going to rock it.
What can we expect from “Oxymoron”?
Dope shit! Gangsta! My life. Everyone’s life. It’s dope. It’s a street album. It’s fun. It’s really in depth…it’s just my life.
