Disney has been doing well lately, especially after taking home almost a billion dollar revenue at the global box office for their highly anticipated live action version of The Jungle Book. With so many graphic advancements in our movies, Disney perhaps feels like their kids classic stories needs an upgrade in order to appeal to today’s younglings.  Whatever the reason, the company has been in talks with Guy Ritchie who has taken up the challenge of filming a live action version of another Disney classic, Aladdin.

With the hope of starting a new franchise, Disney has also tapped Big Fish scribe John August, who has written the script. The Lego Movie‘s Dan Lin is handling the production. Those franchise launches have included Maleficent, Cinderella, and of course The Jungle Book.

In case you are not aware of Guy Ritchie’s masterful creations. He is the genius behind masterpieces like Snatch and RocknRolla, as well as the first two Sherlock Holmes films with Robert Downey Jr and Jude Law. He most recently wrapped King Arthur: Legend of the Sword with Charlie Hunnam and Law for Warner Bros.

Disney has a few more movies coming in the future. Next to be released is Beauty and the Beast on March 17, 2017 followed by Mary Poppins Returns on December 25, 2018. The studio also has a live-action Mulan and The Lion King in the works. The re-imagining of the Disney animated classics is a beginning of a new era.
