Gladys Knight‘s entire legacy in the restaurant world could be tarnished after health inspection discovered that her Chicken and Waffles restaurants are infested with roaches.

Although the restaurants have her name, the soul singer’s son Shanga Hankerson is ultimately the one to blame for the discrepancies, according to Knight. The legal war between Knight and Hankerson over the use of her name in his restaurant chain has been ongoing for months, but escalated following the health inspection.

The singer has been fighting in court for her son to remove her name from the Gladys Knight Chicken and Waffles outlets in Georgia after being accused of stealing from the business. She returned to court earlier this week, demanding that her son not be let off a default judgement, which was granted in her favor after he failed to respond to her lawsuit in time.

She also pointed out that the restaurant chain has been ruining her reputation. The chicken and waffle joint received a 44/100 grade earlier this month and the department’s report cited the restaurant for violations including handling food without gloves, heavy grease, dirt, dust, build-up on floor, walls, ceilings and even cockroaches.

Hankerson is denying all the allegations of wrongdoing by his mother and demands the entire lawsuit be thrown out. He also wants Gladys Knight to pay all of his court fees.
