Though police are held to a standard of infallibility in our society without a doubt, law enforcement and enforcers are flawed, evidenced by a plethora of stories out there. The NYPD is no stranger to controversy due to corrupt cops. The most recent instance involves rookie cop Officer Josanne Hernandez, 27, who only joined the force in January. Her $42,819 per year salary must’ve not been clicking, because she took it upon herself to steal an American Express credit card out of the pocketbook of one of her sisters-in-blue and scam. The theft (which occurred on October 14, at the Police Academy in College Point, Queens) was caught on tape. Hernandez (a native of Trinidad, mother and former postal worker) then proceeded to ball out on the victim’s credit at drug stores and online.

The NY Daily News breaks down Hernandez’s spending in the days after she swiped the card:

The following day, someone used the victim’s stolen American Express card to buy $38.98 worth of items at a Walgreen’s at 1032 Gates Ave. in Bedford-Stuyvesant at about 3 p.m…

Hernandez then made $1,088.79 in purchases on the Bloomingdale’s website.

On Oct. 16, Hernandez put $57.07 in purchases on the same card at a Target in Fort Greene, court records show. Security video caught her making the purchases.

She went online again and bought $1,783.30 in products from the Nordstrom’s website and $484.50 from Missguided.com.

In all, she allegedly stole $3,452.64 during the spree.

Hernandez resigned from the NYPD after getting knocked on Friday. She was arraigned in Brooklyn criminal court on charges of possession of stolen property and petty larceny and released on her own recognizance.
