There’s been a lot of talk about marijuana lately since Colorado legalized it and made it available for general sale and consumption. There’s also a few players who’ve been suspended for testing positive for the drug. NFL commissioner Roger Goodell acknowledged the change in times and said he was open to the possibility of players using medical marijuana in the future. Well it’s not in place yet but former Bears and Ravens linebacker Brendon Ayanbadejo opened up and told about his teammates smoking weed.
During a podcast for FOX Sports, Ayanbadejo revealed that his teammates smoked marijuana before the Super Bowl. Ayanbadejo played for the Bears in Super Bowl XLI after the 2006 season and the Ravens in Super Bowl XLVII last season, but he would not reveal which teammate or even which year the incident took place.
“I’m not going to say which Super Bowl it was but I just remember getting off the elevator one night — it was early on in the week, just to start the week off — and all of the sudden I just got hit over the head with fumes of marijuana on the entire floor of the hotel that the team was staying on . . . I could just imagine there were a few young guys just toking it up in more than one room.
“I was like, ‘Man this is the week of the Super Bowl and you’re just going in?’ So then I was looking around, and I’m like ‘OK, where is the security?’ I looked and for some reason we didn’t have regular police — coach was smart enough to have rent-a-cops on our floor instead of regular police like we usually do.
“I scratched my head but I was like, ‘OK, uh, that’s a good thing ’cause . . .’ that’s it. That’s all I’ve got to say about that.”
I’m not sure why he felt the need to share that but he’s been in the news in the past for revealing lockerroom information.
