The Source Magazine caught up with Juicy J on the red carpet for the Clive Davis and the Recording Academy Pre-Grammy Gala at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Check out what he had to say about his “twerking” scholarship, upcoming tour with Travi$ Scott, collaborating with Katy Perry and his upcoming album.
Are you pleased with the results of your scholarship contest?
Juicy J: Yes, I am definitely pleased with the results of my scholarship. I will be doing the Juicy J Scholarship Foundation probably every year now. I might not throw another contest or nothing like that, I might do something different, but I just want to help out the community, people that’s in need and really want to go to school and better themselves at school.
You just announced the ” Never Sober” Tour with Travi$ Scott and Project Pat. What can fans expect?
Juicy J: It’s going be a crazy turnt up tour. I’m excited, I’ve seen his show performances on Youtube, he’s an amazing artist. He’s got amazing tracks. I heard he produces too, someone told me he does production so maybe I’ll get a track from him for my new album.
You have a number one smash with Katy Perry called “Dark Horse.” How did that collaboration come about?
Juicy J: My homie, my best friend Dr. Luke called me one day, he was like yo man Juicy J, Katy Perry wants to feature you on one of her records. I was like Holy shit, so I jumped in my car, flew down to the studio, and she came in and she’s so professional, she was at the mixing board the whole time telling the engineer how she wanted the music, and boom it’s a smash.
What do you admire about Katy Perry?
Juicy J: I mean she’s so professional, she’s cool she’s down to earth she’s chill and she’s a great performer. Wait to you see tomorrow, it’s amazing. I can’t tell you what’s gonna happen, but it’s an amazing performance.
What can you tell us about your new album?
Juicy J: My new album is called “The Hustle Continues.” THC, probably released in September. Production by me, Mike Will, Dr. Luke, I got some more on there like Crazy Mike, Lil’ Arie. It’s gonna be insane.
Sponsored by Harman, Hilton Hotels & Resorts, Hyundai, and MasterCard Worldwide, the celebration took place on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, Calif., on the Eve of the 56th Annual GRAMMY Awards.
