It’s a pretty sensitive time for the country after having one of the most bizarre elections in history. President-elect Donald Trump‘s victory has caused such a major divide that it’s not even safe to make jokes about Presidents anymore.
Wanda Sykes learned the hard way during one of her stand-up shows over the weekend. According to reports, some in the crowd booed the comedian during her set at the 22nd annual Comics Come Home fundraiser in Boston on Saturday for criticizing Trump. During her performance, Sykes said, “I am certain this is not the first time we’ve elected a racist, sexist, homophobic president. He ain’t the first one. He’s just the first confirmed one.”
The crowd then erupted with boos, to which Wanda responded by flipping them the bird and yelling “F— you, motherf—ers! How can you say he’s not racist? Grab them by the p—y’? How can you say he’s not sexist? How can you say he’s not racist? How can you say he’s not homophobic?”
Although Sykes only commented on Trump about five minutes into her set and delivered non-political jokes after the boos, she still became found up with the crowd and eventually walked off the stage. Denis Leary took hit the stage to introduce the next performer, and he reportedly defended Sykes, saying she deserved the audience’s respect.
