Jay Z has 99 problems and now a lawsuit from Prince‘s record label is one.
Hov was in the running to take control of the late singer’s unreleased tracks, but the record label declined the $40 million offer due to other problems they have with the rapper. According to reports, Prince’s NPG Records is suing Roc Nation for overstepping an agreement Prince signed with them before his death. The documents state that Prince made a deal for Roc Nation to stream, through TIDAL, the last album he released before his death, but Roc Nation decided to stream almost all of Prince’s catalog as of June 7, 2016.
NPG is now suing Roc Nation for copyright infringement, claiming that none of that streaming was authorized. Although documents don’t mention the amount the label is suing for, TIDAL is still streaming some of Prince’s greatest hits (including “I Wanna Be Your Lover,” “1999,” and “Little Red Corvette), which could cost Roc Nation a pretty penny.
