D.L. Hughley is on Twitter’s chopping block after making an insensitive, ignorant joke about the deaths of Carrie Fisher and her mom. Carrie, best known for her role as Star Wars‘ Princess Leia, died on Tuesday, December 27 and her mother, Debbie Reynolds, tragically passed away the next day. Barely one day later, Hughley hit social media with some unfunny commentary.
Instead of sending out his heartfelt condolences like the rest of the world, the comedian compared Black and White moms in a perfect example of “If you don’t have anything nice to say, don’t say anything at all.” What’s worse is he’s standing by the tweet. See his joke and responses to critics below.
When Twitter reacted, Hughley defended his own lack of awareness.
He then posted a photo of himself with actual funny people, Anthony Anderson and George Lopez. What a sad, sad moment in his life this is.
