In closing of New York City’s Super Bowl week, Hennessey and Nas celebrated year three of their “Never Stop. Never Settle.” campaign, with a performance in front of star-studded crowd at NYC’s Spring Studios. Singer-songwriter Kelly Rowland also graced the stage for a phenomenal performance, while Mark Ronson and DJ White Shadow controlled the night’s soundtrack. Onlookers included Jay Z, Beyonce, Tyson Beckford, Busta Rhymes, Bun B, and many more.
With their personal live bands alongside them, both Nas and Rowland treated the fans to offerings from each of their early bodies of work, as well as some of the newer material. The Queens MC also brought out long-time collaborator and former member of The Firm, AZ, for a rendition of “Life’s A B*tch” off of Esco’s classic ‘Illmatic’ LP. Eric B. was also brought to the stage, which furthered an already nostalgic performance by ‘God’s Son’. Esco also gave praise for a resurgence of “New York Rap” and the direction Hip-Hop is going, while doing a brief tribute to Outkast and their reunion.
Although the final score of the Super Bowl may have been a bit of a letdown, inside the Spring Studios reminded everyone that hip-hop isn’t dead and that life is indeed good.
