The New Edition Story is a three-part biopic premiering Tuesday, January 24 on BET—and for obvious reasons, we’re super excited to tune in.
One of the most legendary boy bands ever, New Edition gave us songs we’re still kicking it to generations later. Just ask The Weeknd, who shouted the group out in his hit “Starboy” when he sang, “I’m in the Blue Mulsanne bumping New Edition.” We don’t drive a Bentley, but we can still relate.
Producers nabbed a star-studded cast for the miniseries, with Luke James starring as Johnny Gill, Woody McClain as Bobby Brown, Elijah Kelley as Ricky Bell, Bryshere Y. Gray as Michael Bivins, Algee Smith as Ralph Tresvant, and Keith Powers as Ronnie Devoe. The biopic will tell the story of how they got their start in Boston and dealt with the ups and downs that went along with fame. It will also touch on some of the solo successes born from the original group.
To kick it off, we want to remind you of just how good the fellas were back in their day. Check out what we think are their seven best songs below and be sure to flip the channel to BET at 9p/8c on Tues, Jan. 24.
“Cool It Now” – One of our favorites, “Cool It Now” reminds us what it was like to fall in love for the first time.
“Candy Girl” – All the ladies love this one – what’s better than hearing about how fly and sweet you are?
“Mr. Telephone Man” – New Edition championed heartbreak with this smooth track everybody can relate to.
“Can You Stand The Rain” – Deep down inside, everyone wants to know if the one they love will weather the storm by their side…
“A Little Bit of Love (Is All It Takes)” – We dare you not to dance while listening to this one. Yeah, we didn’t think so.
“If It Isn’t Love” – Between the fancy footwork and lyrics that perfectly depict love, we can’t get enough of this track.
“Lost In Love” – Would we love you, New Edition? Yes, yes we would. Forever and ever.
