Our previously Unsigned Hype initiate, Vic Mensa, has had the internet ablaze, thanks to his debut solo mixtape Innanetape. Chicago has been on the rise recently, and he is definitely one of the main figures in the movement. Smoko Ono, a burgeoning producer and a key architect to a variety of emcee’s sounds, put his personal touch on one of Vic’s standout tracks, “Magic”.

Ono takes the smooth original, and pours a ton of codeine and psychedelia onto, which can be seen visually in the purple tinted video. He focuses more on the  instrumentation, letting the track breath until its ultimate crescendo, where he lets the rhythmic section dominate over the melody. It is an interesting fusion of house,traditional hip hop, and space rap. Definitely check out the video, you won’t be disappointed.
