hr_The_LEGO_Movie_10This is exactly what you get when you mix the minds of the people who made 21 Jump Street, Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, and Hotel Transylvania. The Lego Movie is full of fun loving characters that gets you involved in the storyline right away is sure to be a blast for both kids and adults alike.

Starring Chris Pratt as the loveable hero Emmet, Liam Neeson as both a good cop and a bad cop, Morgan Freeman as Vitruvius (a God-like character, how befitting), Elizabeth Banks as WyldStyle, Will Arnett as Batman, and Will Ferrell as Lord Business, the movie will keep you guessing who is voicing each character. Other guest voices include Charlie Day, Jonah Hill, Channing Tatum, Will Forte, Dave Franco, Nick Offerman, Shaquille O’Neal, and Billy Dee Williams reprising his animated role of Lando Calrissian.

The movie revolves around Emmet being the average Joe when he finds (and falls in love with at first sight) WyldStyle who is on a mission to bring peace to the Lego worlds, who suffer from the hands of President Business, better known as Lord Business. As the story moves further, we encounter Good Cop/Bad Cop who is sometimes a ruthless Lego-hunter or sometimes is a loving and sympathetic Lego, as well as Vitruvius who is an all seeing prophet, in a sense, looking for a return to normalcy. The entire conflict revolves around Lord Business’ strife to bring what he thinks is order to the world all while fighting against “Master Builders,” who are Legos who use their imagination to build anything.

Kind of guessing how the story goes? Well, the movie was extremely entertaining and this is partially due to how captivating it is from the start. The fact that it was partially stop motion and partially CGI brings a whole new world of possibility into play and it leaves you in awe of how some scenes were made. And the premise itself brings people -children and adults alike- into a brand new world of imagination where the audience is free to discover whatever their inner child desires.

If you don’t want to go to the movies to see the film, at least wait for it to go on Netflix or something because it’s just a brand new way of filmmaking that genuinely captivates you from the beginning. Of course the kids would love to see this movie and even as an adult you’ll remember how much fun and how imaginative you were, and then start to drive to the next toy store and get yourself some Legos. And at the very least, bring your kids along to watch the movie while you play a guessing game who voices which character or just how similar this is to those mid-life crisis movies.

It’s just a fun-loving movie that is sure to entertain and you’ll be amazed just at how it’s made. “Lego Movie” is now playing.
