Last November Kanye joined Bret Easton Ellis for a two-part conversation for the author’s podcast. What the duo failed to mention was that they have been working on a joint film project. In an interview with VICE, Ellis gave as much information as he could about the film — which isn’t much more than confirmation of its existence and some of the events that set it in motion.

The author said:

It’s in Kanye Land, and that’s subject to a whole other time frame. He came and asked me to write the film. I didn’t want to at first. Then I listened to Yeezus. It was early summer last year and I was driving in my car. He’d given me an advance copy, and I thought, regardless of whether I’m right for this project, I want to work with whoever made this. So fuck it, I said yes. And that’s how it happened. That was seven or eight months ago. We’ll see what happens.

I really like him as a person. I know he comes off in this performance-art way in the press, but if you’re just alone with him in a room talking for three hours, it’s kind of mind-blowing.

Bret Easton Ellis is the creative mind behind the controversial 1991 transgressive novel American Psycho, which was the basis of the 2000 film, starring Christian Bale, of the same name.

Kanye and Ellis have collaborated in the past, once for promotional video for Yeezus  which was a spoof of American Psycho and again when Kanye provided music for Easton’s film The Canyons. The chemistry and creative genius is there, let’s hope the film lives up to the talent behind it.
