Love them or hate them, Odd Future is on just about everybody’s radar. The musically diverse Los Angeles-based collective, spanning from hip-hop and punk to neo-soul and R&B, has been making waves in music, fashion, and even television for the past couple of years. In honor of rapper savant of the group Earl Sweatshirt‘s WEARLD Tour and funk/soul group The Internet‘s recently announced Spring Tour, here’s a list of some of OF’s craziest live concert moments.
Earl’s First Show Back from Samoa
Shortly after releasing his debut record “Earl,” Sweatshirt, real name Thebe Kgositsile, was shipped to a boarding school in Samoa for troubled youth. This kickstarted the Free Earl movement that was Odd Future’s trademark and had reached a fever pitch by the time Sweatshirt returned stateside in 2012. He surprised the crowd during an OF show at the Hammerstein Ballroom by performing his infamous verse from “Oldie.”
Nelly/Kelis/R.Kelly Distractions
Sweatshirt brought fellow young LA-based rapper Vince Staples with him during a tour promoting his debut studio album “Doris” late last year. Staples and Sweatshirt are an amusing buddy team live, cracking jokes and feeding off of each other’s energy, especially at their Webster Hall show this past Thursday. This impromptu dance party clip is from their show at the Bowery Ballroom last November.
OF Stage Rush in Camden
OF’s live act is known for its blending of hip-hop and punk aesthetics, complete with hard beats and hard heads clashing in the pit. This clip from the Camden Crawl in Ireland has leader Tyler, The Creator inviting fans to crawl over security and join him onstage.
Tyler, The Creator Breaks His Foot At House of Blues Los Angeles
While attempting to surprise fans at the House of Blues Los Angeles at the opening of their set, Tyler hops out from under the DJ booth and breaks his foot. No one can say that Tyler isn’t willing to put his fans before his own well-being.
Tyler Beats On A Fan After Taking A Water Bottle To The Head
As rambunctious as they can get, even OF has its limits. Tyler defined his when a fan hit him in the head with a water bottle during a performance of “Yonkers” in Austin, Tx. He hopped off the stage and rushed the fan, making it clear that fans who chuck bottles at them aren’t welcome at their shows.
Left Brain Slaps Drunk Fan In The Face During MellowHype Show
Tyler’s not the only one willing to get physical with his fans if they cross him. Resident producer and secondary live wire Left Brain put five across a drunk fan’s face when they got too close for comfort. Need I say more?
Waka Flocka Performs ‘KARMA’ with Odd Future in Georgia.
OF has never been shy about its unabashed love for Waka Flocka. It came as no surprise that Tyler invited Flocka on stage during a show in Atlanta, GA to perform “KARMA” together.
