As much as some people would like to believe we live in a post-racial society, we’re reminded daily that racism is still alive and well in American adults. From outrage over same-sex marriage to an unbalanced justice system, this country has got a long way to go in terms of considering everyone equal.
But what if we saw the world through the eyes of children? Based on this adorable video showcasing kids and their reaction to Cheerios’ “controversial” ‘Just Checking’ commercial, the world would be a far better place.
In the video, a group of children ranging from the ages of 7 to 13, were asked to share their thoughts on the cereal commercial that sparked outrage for showing an interracial married couple and their biracial daughter. The result: they saw an adorable little girl and her parents. That’s it. Not one cared that the mother was white and the father was black, and when it was pointed out to them, many of them asked “What’s the big deal? It’s just a Cheerios commercial.”
We could all learn a thing or two from our youth, don’t you think?
