Former head SNL writer, Seth Meyers, takes over ‘Late Night’

TheSource.com, The SourceLast night was a pretty eventful night for Seth Myers. The former head Saturday Night Live writer took over NBC’s ‘Late Night’ from his former Saturday Night Live buddy, Jimmy Fallon. While Meyers’ debut as the fourth host of the popular show received mixed reviews, overall he seems to have come out on top.

During the beginning of his debut, Meyers paid homage to his friend with a letter he penned to him.

Thank you, Jimmy Fallon, for taking over the ‘Tonight Show’ at 11: 30, so I can take over ‘Late Night’ at 12:30,” he began in a humorous manner. “I promise to treat it with respect and dignity, and to only use it to do completely original comedy pieces,” Meyers added.

Throughout the remainder of his debut, Meyers kept the jokes coming as he delivered a comedic monologue and followed up with a makeshift interview with his ‘band member,’ Fred Armisen, about a non-existent show. The jokes ceased when Meyers began to tell a lighthearted narrative that featured himself, his wife Alexi, his flat tire that another individual changed for him, while he held onto his pup.

It’s very hard to feel macho when you’re holding a tiny dog while another man changes your wife’s tire,” he stated.

Moving on to bring out his first guest, it seemed to have been a reunion when he brought out his former Saturday Night Live co-anchor Amy Poehler. Following his chat with Poehler, Meyers brought out guest number two, who just so happened to be Vice President Joe Biden. Instead of grilling Biden on pressing political debacles, Meyers took a different approach as he simply asked him of his plans for 2016.

In an attempt to take the attention away from himself, Biden replied, “Well, you know. I was planning to make a major announcement tonight, but I decided tonight’s your night.”

Be sure to catch more of Seth Meyers on Late Night during the weeknights at 12:35/11:36c!
