With days away from Women’s History Month, BET premiered the movie Free Angela And All Political Prisoners. it was only right to hear the story of a woman that was not afraid to take charge, Angela Davis.
The movie details her life and how police feared this woman. The movie was released just two years ago. Angela Davis was a force to be wrecking with during the 70′s as she was associated with the Black Panther Party and part of the communist party.
The movie revealed when she was first arrested on August 07, 1970 during the Marian County courthouse incident that resulted in someone being killed and she became an fugitive as she fled California. This case resulted in heavy media as it became first discovered. There was a massive manhunt for her as President Richard Nixon announced it on tv.They were finally able to track her down in New York as they finally arrested her and was not find guilty.
When she was first arrested, she became the first woman to be on America’s wanted list and behind her is Assata Shakur, who fled to Cuba after she reportedly killed a cop. When she was released from prison, she visited Cuba and felt a sigh of relief because it was a racist free country and didn’t have to worry about police or anything else. Known for her activism, she officially left the Communist party back in 1991 and became a professor at University of California. This woman revolutionize what it means to be a woman in this country and how hard it is. This is one legacy that is unforgettable.
