Watch a clip from the long-awaited film here.

We’ve been waiting for this. Finally clips of All Is By My Side– the biopic of legendary artist Jimi Hendrix starring Andre 3000– are here.

“No, but see I don’t want to get caught up in those kinda labels though, you know,” Andre says to future manager Chas Chandler (played by actor Andrew Buckley) as he tries to persuade him to move to London. “Oh he’s playing the blues, or he’s playing you know like, R&B, Soul or whatever. All that kind of stuff, those cages, man. It’s not about style, ya know. I want my music to go inside the soul of a person.”

Set to premiere in the U.S for the first time at SXSW (South by Southwest) March 12th, the almost-two hour film focuses on guitarist Jimi Hendrix’s life from 1966-67. Imogen Poots -who stars as model Linda Keith– appears in both clips and throughout the entire movie as Hendrix’s love interest.

Written and directed by Academy Award-winning screenwriter John Ridley (who just won an Oscar for 12 Years a Slave), All Is By My Side has everything a Jimi fan could want- just not his actual music. Due to the Hendrix estate not supporting the film, none of his music will be played in it (just a heads up). Unfortunate as it is, one cannot be too disappointed seeing that this is the first major film on the rock star and it’s starring one of the biggest names in hip-hop (who is naturally a dead-ringer for Hendrix). If you want to catch the premiere, take that trip down to Austin this week- I promise you, it’s completely worth it.
